Our volunteer Gina supporting La Libertad

In the last year alone we doubled the number of volunteers in the village, received grants to build a community vegetable garden and a village raft, and debuted our new Sponsor A Student program. $100 covers the annual cost of required school supplies, including uniforms, shoes, notebooks, and pens, for one student. We were able to provide supplies for four students whose families could not otherwise afford to send them to school.

Looking forward to 2017 and beyond, our goals include doubling the Sponsor A Student program to allow a minimum of eight children in need to attend school. We are also assisting the village’s Association of Farmers, Fishers, and Artisans in developing a yuca processing plant – their first official business venture in La Libertad.

Along with these specific goals, access to clean drinking water is one of the most pressing basic needs in the village. A small filtration system for a single household can be purchased for under $150, providing over 4,000 liters of clean drinking water before needing a new filter ($30).

Your gift matters. Donate today to help us continue supporting the people in La Libertad and ensuring the responsible management of this amazing Amazon rainforest ecosystem.
